Give people plenty of leeway to devise their own means – Visionary Leaders
Daniel Goleman distinguishes 6 styles of leadership - Visionary, Coaching, Affiliative, Democratic, Pacesetting and Commanding.
Leadership styles are like the array of clubs in a golf pro’s bag. In a game, the pro picks the clubs based on the demand of the shot. Sometimes he has to ponder but usually it is fairly instinctively. The pro senses the challenges ahead, swiftly pull out the right tool and elegantly swing it. That’s how high impact leaders operate, too.

I watched "The Apprentice" every weekend to get a sense of how 'big corporate leader' (e.g. Donald Trump in this case) view and select their employees. He once said, you (as a boss) would not know to do all the things but you have to get smart people do for you. I kind of believe that he loves to see the beginning and the end result instead of the process, unless the project is disastrous. Is he a visionary leader?
'Visionary' seems to be the closest match to Trump's style in "The Apprentice". In my opinion, even the situation is disastrous, you may still want to continue to stand aside to advise/coach (only when necessary), provided that the team is actually capable to cope with it but just need a little more time and more external information.
Some interesting quotes about leadership in Wikiquote, and among them, I like this one:
"As we, the leaders, deal with tomorrow, our task is not to try to make perfect plans. Our task is to create organizations that are sufficiently flexible and versatile that they can take our imperfect plans and make them work in execution. That is the essential character of the learning organization." ~ Gordon R. Sullivan & Michael V. Harper
